Morton NV Sec

A blend that has made Morton Estate Brut famous, this sparkling wine combines Hawkes Bay and Marlborough grapes. With a higher sugar level than the Brut, the Reserve Sec offers a sweeter, softer palate enhanced with classic methode characters.
It is delicate, very fresh and lively with crisp citrus and apple flavours and recommended to accompany all our seafood dishes and most tapas

Italian La Gioiosa Prosecco

Sweeter than the average Brut but not to the Asti Spumante sweetness this sparkling wine (sometimes called Venetian Champagne) has become very popular at The Cheeky Pipi with any selection of food. Flavoured from apple and peach the La Gioiosa brand is the biggest selling Italian wine in the UK (April 2008) and described as the "ideal summer afternoon quaffer"

Deutz Blanc de Blanc 2003

A very stylish sparkling wine from Marlborough can be both an aperitif or served Deutz Brut with main course food. Suits reasonably delicate dishes. Seafood is great, particularly shellfish and salmon. The acidity in the wine helps to enhance seafood flavours in much the same way as garnishing it with a squeeze of lemon.

WHITE WINES

CHARDONNAY

A native of Burgundy, France, this grape variety dates back to the 1950s in New Zealand. Experimentally grown at a Government Research station in the Waikato in the 1950s Chardonnay grapes are now grown mainly in Marlborough, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.

PINOT GRIS

A distant relative of the Pinot Noir the Pinot Gris originated from Burgundy France. In New Zealand uit is found mainly in Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Central Otago regions. Between 2001 and 2003 plantings in New Zealand doubled as the Pinot Gris gained more popularity.

The first Sauvignon Blanc in NZ was recorded in West Auckland's Matua Valley winery in 1974. The first commercial plantings were in Marlborough which has now become a world class producing region; today Sauvignon Blanc is our most widely grown grape variety and is one of NZ's top export successes.

Matua Regional Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2008

RIESLING

Framingham Marlborough Classic Riesling 2007

Framingham produces one of the best range of Rieslings in Marlborough. Lifted aromas of lemon, Granny Smith apples and hint of pineapple and passionfruit.
The residual sugar in the wine is balanced with a backbone of firm, natural acidity giving a long, dry finish Goes well with fish dishes.

Our House Red is a Cheeky Little Red which comes from the Hawke's Bay Babich vineyards.

From Waipara Valley in North Canterbury this sized bottle is ideal for a couple wanting a glass of quality wine each with dinner.  The combination of flavours featuring blackcurrant fruit, berries and spicy oak aroma goes well with our lamb and beef menu selection.

 Has a soft, complex middle palate and a medium to firm finish.  Enjoy !

Kahurangi Merlot 2006

The 2006 Merlot was grown in Central Hawkes Bay and is a wine with good fruit intensity and true varietal character with ripe cherry on the nose and spicy and firm tannins on the palate.

From Martinborough, Wairarapa comes one of Australasia's top Pinot Noirs. From its inception as a vineyard in the 1980s Te Kairanga Pinot Noir has consistently rated amongst the best.

Kings Road Pinot Noir Waipara 2007

Warm and generous with ripe, dark cherry taste and a slight savouriness with black pepper notes Pinot Noir is particularly lovely with food.  Try it with the Pipi's Lamb rack.

Morton Estate Pinot Noir 2005

Lifted aromas of mocha chocolate, boysenberry and raspberry complement an intense black plum character. Displaying a full bodied roundness to the palate and grainy tannin structure, this wine gives way to a lingering smoky finish. A wonderful accompaniment to red meat dishes.

Sileni Syrah

From the Sileni family Vineyard near Hastings in the Hawke's Bat comes this award winning Syrah. From the dark purple grapes with ripe brambly fruit and cracked pepper characters this wine is a wonderful accompaniment to the Pipi's pasta, lamb or beef dishes.

DESSERT WINES

Haewai Festive Mead or Honey Mead

Haewai Meads are made locally in Houghton Bay Road from natural spring water mixed with organic honeys. They can be served at room temperature or with ice. Also recommended as a Dessert Wine to accompany our Pavlova dessert offering. Festive Mead is dry whilst Honey Mead is medium sweet.

Mt Cass "Opulence" Late Harvest Chardonnay 2006

Harvested in June 2004 at waipara in North Canterbury this classy, fresh sweet wine with apricots, honey and pear flavours has vanilla and cream notes on a long sugary finish. Melts in the mouth ad especially good with the Cheeky Pipi heavier desserts (Steam puddings and Chocolate cake in particular). What a way to finish a great night at the Cheeky Pipi !
